Congratulations to the winners of the 2018 Diverse-City Art Competition!
DAP’s Diverse-City Art Competition gives students the opportunity to express, through art, their understanding and awareness of diversity and inclusion within their communities and schools. All students, K-12, from the St. Louis Metropolitan area are welcome to participate. Submissions may be in any medium including, but not limited to: paint, drawing, photography, video, digital, sculpture, charcoal, mixed-media.
All students in Kindergarten through 12th grade residing in the St. Louis Metropolitan area are eligible. Students will compete in the following categories: K-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, 9th-12th grade. Only one entry per student will be allowed. Students are asked to not submit artwork created by more than one artist.
Submissions may be in any medium including, but not limited to: paint, drawing, photography, video, digital, sculpture, charcoal, mixed media. Submissions are now closed.
2-D digital artwork must be printed and a physical copy submitted. Videos can be submitted on a thumb drive or through an online file sharing site (i.e. Google Drive, Dropbox) and should be no more than 3 minutes long. All entries must be accompanied by a completed, signed submission form.
Theme Interpretation: The piece demonstrates that the artist thought critically about what diversity and inclusion is and how diversity and inclusion impact or are represented in their community.
Creativity: The artwork is original and demonstrates creativity in both the concept and design.
Composition: The piece is well executed, engaging, and complete; taking into account the age of the artist.
A panel of community judges comprised of those with experience in diversity and/or art will evaluate entries on the basis of the criteria above. The artist’s names and schools will be kept confidential until judging is complete. Judging will occur within 1 month of the submission deadline. Winners will be notified via email within 1 week of the judging.
Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each category. Prizes may include gift certificates, art supplies, art classes, and/or memberships. Winning submissions will also be displayed at a DAP community event this summer, and be featured items in the silent auction at the annual Diversity Dinner.
