Manager, Retail Operations St. Louis Cardinals


The St. Louis Cardinals is currently seeking candidates for its Manager, Retail Operations position. This position manages all aspects of the two Cardinals Authentics retail store operations, specializing in official, game-used, limited edition, and autographed collectibles and memorabilia including in-store, online, and auction sales on a year round basis to achieve and exceed sales goals as established by the Club. This position also manages merchandise purchasing and visual merchandising, develops purchase plans for Jupiter Spring Training operations, and provides consultation on Spring Training operations. Also periodically review Sportservice retail operations and provide recommendations on produce selection and pricing.


• Plan, organize, and manage all retail store operations including: merchandising of products, creation of in-store signage and displays, and implementation of sales/promotions, staff supervision, budgeting and managing finances, and generating daily reports for accounting
• Manage procurement and retail pricing of game-used and authentic inventory from various sources, including the development and creation of autographed and limited-edition pieces
• Oversee inventory management of products and maintain, update and increase product variety at a fair industry price to achieve sales goals as established by the Club
• Create purchase plans for Jupiter Spring Training, analyzing previous year's sales, selecting and creating designs for apparel, headwear and novelties and determine order quantities. Review and manage inventory annually to improve overall operation and profitability
• In conjunction with MLBAM, set up online store inventory for new and auction products, including submitting item descriptions and photos, processing daily online and auction orders through the POS system, executing order fulfillment (shipping) and reconcile sales reports from MLB.
• Conduct monthly inventory evaluations to assess slow moving products and liquidate slow-moving or dated items
• Create and implement product advertising and marketing programs, including radio and print, email blasts, social media announcements, scoreboard advertisements, television appearances, and retail website updates to alert customers of new products, sales, special promotions, and upcoming auctions
• Work with vendors on creating new and exclusive products for both Cardinals Nation and Busch Stadium retail locations
• Work with the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum staff on procurement of game-used and authentic inventory from the Clubhouse, players, and other MLB Clubs
• Manage the job duties and scheduling of two full-time Supervisors as well as 20+ part time employees through recruiting, training, and coaching
• Assist with any other department duties as needed

Qualifications / Requirements

Education & Experience Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field or equivalent retail management experience
• 7-10 years retail and staff management experience
• Experience in retail data analysis and creating and executing a purchase plan
• Experience in managing POS and inventory control systems, electronic web-based commerce operations
• Experience with accounting and monthly transactions regarding to purchases and the general ledger, and creating and ordering new products
• Experience with hiring, training, and coaching staff
• Experience in inventory management and controls and the retail buying including purchasing, visual merchandising and inventory control
• Experience with merchandising store floors and fixtures
• Knowledge of Sports Memorabilia and MLB history/Cardinals history
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of retail practices and principles and excellent analytical skills
• Knowledge of Retail Pro and Microsoft office products
• Ability to manage large staff and work autonomously with very little direction

Education & Experience Preferred:

• 10+ years retail management and staff experience
• Extensive knowledge of Cardinals history and the sports memorabilia industry
