Description

The Controller assists the Chief Financial Officer with the financial activities of the holding company and subsidiaries, both individually and in collaboration with accounting staff. The person in this position interacts with all other departments in all organizations to complete duties associated with the role. The Controller works in the Holding Company Accounting Department and reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Daily Cash Management
  • Complete bank reconciliations
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of the General Ledger
  • Organize and report on monthly general ledger account reconciliations prepared by accounting staff
  • Book various journal entries throughout the month
  • Perform month end closing activities
  • Complete sales, use tax returns, and ensure proper filing
  • Manage job cost accounting for projects working closely with project managers
  • Prepare year end and monthly financial statements including notes and supporting schedules
  • Assist in coordinating and gathering documentation for external audits
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies
  • Maintain historical and trend reporting
  • Report quarterly internal banking financial statements
  • Review and sign employment verification requests
  • Other responsibilities at the direction of the Chief Financial Officer

Qualifications / Requirements

Primary qualifications and requirements for success:

  • Education/Experience - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, from a four-year college or university; or five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of the General Ledger
  • Perform month-end closing activities
  • Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Controller is an exempt position.
