Accounting Internship COCA (Center of Creative Arts)

The Accounting Intern, reporting to the Director of Finance, will work directly with the Accounting staff on a day-to-day basis to help maintain systems and processes. This role is responsible for the data entry of COCA’s daily software batches, recording invoices, and assisting in account reconciliations. This role is a temporary, intern position, starting in January 2023 with the potential to last around six (6) months.

Accounts Receivable:

Responsible for entering daily deposits journal entries into the accounting software (Great Plains) through the bank reconciliation module:

Contributed income and box office sales from Tessitura, COCA’s Development software:

Run Element reports for daily deposit credit card transactions posted to the bank; compare transactions with Tessitura daily batch reports and review for possible discrepancies.

Earned income transactions through Active Network, COCA’s Student Registration software:

Run Account Distribution Report and Agency Payment Report to use as a source document.

Log credit card receivables and reconcile.

Reconciliations:

  • Assist with reconciliation of bank statements by posting various items (interest earned, bank fees, etc.)
  • Assist in researching items missing supporting documentation that have posted to the bank account.

Accounts Payable:

  • Enter AP invoices and Check Requests into Great Plains system, as needed.
  • Assist with getting invoices from vendors and helping to resolve issues.
  • Assist with recording and filing W-9s and Certificates of Insurance.
  • Assist in managing the corporate credit card transactions.
  • Prepare checks and distribute or mail.
  • File AP checks and backup documentation.

General Ledger:

  • Enter Journal Entries into Great Plains, as needed.
  • Assist with reconciliations of general ledger accounts.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • One (1) year of accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word required.
  • Knowledge of some Accounting Software is preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to frequently walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and manipulate objects.
  • Ability to sit for periods.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 10 -20 lbs.

Salary Range: Up to $16.00 Hourly
