Training

Diversity Awareness Partnership’s education and training programs are delivered through presentations, seminars, community forums, and interactive sessions where the focus is understanding and dialogue. These sessions raise awareness around topics of diversity and strategies for inclusion. We take a comprehensive approach to inclusion by working with your organization to contextualize training within a broad array of other services.

Contact us to arrange an education and training opportunity for your organization, by using the Initial Training Request Form at the bottom of this page or by contacting Sarah Masoud, Director of Education and Training, at smasoud@dapinclusive.org or 314-381-5065.

DAP Training Descriptions

We are offering all trainings in-person or virtually.

Cultural Humility

Cultural humility is essential to an inclusive company or organization, particularly in service / nonprofit organizations. This workshop gives participants a look into the fundamentals of cultural humility and how a deeper understanding of this concept will foster inclusivity. This session will delve into why the term cultural humility is used over cultural competency or cultural sensitivity and reflect on how this concept can be used to mitigate types of bias that can lead to the “-isms” (racism, sexism, ableism, etc.). Participants will have the opportunity to explore their own identities and reflect on what cultural humility means to them and their organization with the guidance of an experienced DAP facilitator. At the end of this workshop, participants will be better situated to engage with others without centering their own culture and even reflect on where their skills are best suited based on their social identities. (90 minutes, maximum of 45 participants)

Customizable Trainings

Diversity Awareness Partnership can offer customization of all trainings to fit the needs of your organization.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Organizational Assessment

Diversity Awareness Partnership has created a customizable online assessment of quantitative and qualitative questions to produce data assessing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) topics within your organization. Clients can choose from one of three package options.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: The Fundamentals

This engaging session is perfect for starting the conversation around what diversity, equity, and inclusion are and what strategies can be used to build a more inclusive organization. DAP focuses on five identities: race/ethnicity, religion, ability status, sexual orientation/gender identity, and age. Participants will learn about identity diversity, biases, microaggressions, and other facets of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This session also addresses barriers faced by folks with marginalized identities and offers tools to foster inclusive environments. Clients can choose from a 2.5 or 4-hour version, and this training
can be customized to the industry. (Maximum of 45 participants)
Industries: Health Care | Law | Sports | Education | Refugee Resettlement/Immigration Technology | Corporate | Nonprofit

Exploring D&I Terminology

This session will introduce frameworks and language essential to building foundational knowledge of diversity and inclusion. As a group we will explore key D&I concepts and define words like social identity, bias, and inclusion. Participants will leave with a shared vocabulary, vital for continuing conversations and fostering inclusivity in their respective workplaces. This session aims to provide a strong basis that is crucial to the longevity of inclusion and belonging. Begin your journey towards a more welcoming organization with this introductory workshop. (1 hour, maximum of 45 participants)

Facilitating Dialogue

Diversity Awareness Partnership compiled the most valuable tips and tricks of facilitating dialogue into a 45-minute workshop. This training is tailored towards groups who are interested in facilitating dialogue around diversity, equity, and inclusion topics at their own organizations. Participants will be able to practice the skills learned and discuss questions and concerns with an experienced DAP facilitator. (45 minutes, maximum of 25 participants)

Focus Groups

Diversity Awareness Partnership can facilitate group conversations on specific diversity and inclusion topics (e.g., racial conflict, exclusive language, microaggressions). These smaller groups provide opportunities for deeper dialogue invaluable to building inclusivity. (1 hour, maximum of 20 participants)

Inclusive Leadership

This training is tailored towards the leadership of an organization. This session focuses on why inclusive leadership matters and what implementation looks like on a practical level. Participants will understand the importance of taking a systemic approach to DEI related change and offers strategies and tools to make changes that will foster psychological safety and inclusivity. This session also explores the six signature traits of inclusive leadership, examining how each trait can drive mindset and behavior. (2 hours, maximum of 45 participants)

Listen. Talk. Learn.

Conversations on race have always taken place in certain households, but with the advent of #BlackLivesMatter and a surge in social media coverage, these conversations have now moved to center stage in many schools, places of worship, and broader communities. Listen. Talk. Learn. is for those who have started the conversation but want to go deeper than simply broaching the subject. By developing a common language, examining our own privilege, and discussing our experiences with peers, Listen. Talk. Learn. offers a unique opportunity for participants to develop strategies for taking these conversations from a facilitated space back to the contexts where we spend our daily lives, where broader change can begin to take root. (90 minutes, maximum of 20 participants)

Lunch & Learn

These 1-hour sessions focus on dialogue around a specific DEI topic relevant to the organization.

Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity 101

This training will cover the basics of sexual orientation and gender identity. During this training, participants will gain a better understanding of related definitions, pronoun usage, and how to act in allyship with the LGBTQIA+ community. This session will also explain the value of using an intersectional lens when learning about sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender minorities. An activity portion is included; clients can choose from 2 options. (2 hours, maximum of 45 participants)

Thriving in a Multi-Generational Workplace

For the first time in modern history, there are now five generations working simultaneously in the workplace, and engaging all generations is essential to innovation, inclusivity, and belonging. In this session, we will discuss the challenges to a thriving multi-generational workforce and strategies to mitigate these challenges. We will explore the building blocks of intergenerational communication and offer practical tools to foster a workplace where every generation feels empowered to collaborate and contribute. In an age-diverse world, learning to bridge the generational gaps and celebrating the value each generation brings is increasingly important. (1 hour, maximum of 45 participants)

Unconscious Bias Training

The negative impacts of unconscious bias can be present at every level of an organization in countless ways. Participants in this training will better understand what unconscious bias is, its many types, and how it manifests through our behavior. This session explains how bias is a barrier to diversity, equity, and inclusion and offers options for mitigation. Real-world examples are provided throughout the session to demystify what can sometimes be an elusive concept. (2 hours, maximum of 45 participants)

Testimonials

“I’ve gained so much knowledge in DAP’s program that our organization has been a part of so far. The questions you ask are very challenging and necessary for growth and understanding. On top of that, your presentation is kind and patient, yet steadfast in delivery and confidence, giving the information the kind of power that can contribute to good change if the receivers are willing to sit in their discomfort.”

“Sarah and the DAP team were an excellent resource for us at Great Rivers Greenway. They were responsive and knowledgeable in helping us assess what we needed, then competently delivered a virtual training that was informative, engaging and high impact. Our team gave great feedback about their experience and we look forward to working with them again in the future!”

“Sarah and the DAP team were great in planning, developing and executing the Diversity training they hosted for our organization and partners. We have received great feedback from the attendees about how informative and clear the training was. The training was very impactful and applicable to the population we work with. We have booked for Sarah to host another training for us this year, because we enjoyed the first one so much!”
