Diversity Awareness Partnership

EXPLORE AgBiotech

New to our region, but highly committed to exposing, empowering and encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in Agriculture – Biotechnology (AgBioTech), KWS has reached out to DAP to begin a new EXPLORE program with BioSTL.

According to research published by the American Institute of Biological Sciences, negative socioeconomic factors continue to account for disproportionately lower numbers of racial and ethnic minorities, such as African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) training pipeline and scientific workforce. As part of efforts to make the bioscience industry in St. Louis more inclusive, Diversity Awareness Partnership, KWS, and BioSTL created the EXPLORE AgBioTech program that focuses on connecting students of color to professional mentors and developing important skills to support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workforce in our region.

Students who are selected for this program will not only learn about the AgBioTech industry, but they will also learn about entrepreneurship and innovation in the field. KWS will also give students a chance to interactively find solutions to a challenge in the industry. The best part about this program is being in the offices of KWS and getting an exclusive look at the work that is done in the labs.
